Grampian Racial Equality Council (GREC), The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO) are organising a blood collection on Thursday 11th March 2010.

We would like to encourage people who may not have donated blood before or who may not know whether they are eligible to donate blood to get involved and help save lives.

Remember when you give blood, you give another birthday, another Christmas another chance at life for someone else in need. Just one hour of your time could give someone else a lifetime.

Unsure whether you are eligible to Donate?

Why not check out our website www.scotblood.co.uk where you can download copies of:

  • The Donor Information Leaflet
  • The donor health check questionnaire
  • Travel/malarial information Leaflet
  • Self-Deferral Criteria

Important Points

If you have ever stayed in a malarial area for a continuous period of 6 months or more, or visited a malarial area in the last 6 – 12 months you may require a Malarial Antibody Test (MAT) to assess your eligibility to donate blood. If you would like to discuss this in advance with a member of our nursing team, please call 01224 685685.

To ensure the safety of Scotland’s blood supply, all donors are required to read and understand our donor information leaflet and complete a health check questionnaire. If English is not your first language, please note: Due to the confidential nature of the questionnaire we do not allow a translator, friend or family member to interpret on behalf of an individual wishing to donate.

In order to ensure the safety of our donors whilst donating, their face must be fully visible in order that our staff can monitor them for adverse reactions.

Please note that male staff will be attending to both male and female donors.

Visit www.scotblood.co.uk to find more information on all Blood Donation Sessions throughout Scotland.
