Voluntary Sector Blood Donation Drive Graduates of the Common Purpose Programme are expected to “pledge” to do something to make their civic space better for the communities who live in them. Former Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO) Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Kelly and the Director of Grampian Racial Equality Council, (GREC), Jeannie Felsinger, both Common Purpose graduates, decided to pledge to organise a Voluntary Sector Blood Donation Drive to encourage people who have not given blood before to donate. Although Rhonda Kelly has now left ACVO, their new Chief Executive Ian Paterson is taking forward this initiative with Jeannie Felsinger of GREC and also the Quantum Foundation, an organisation that promotes blood donation from within the Bangladeshi community. GREC is particularly keen to attract minority ethnic people to the event and to raise awareness of the Blood Transfusion Service, (BTS), amongst folk who are newly arrived in Aberdeen. However, EVERYONE who works, donates time or is involved with the voluntary sector is implored to come along and give their blood!! On March 11th between 14.00 – 16.00 and 17.15 – 20.00, the Blood Transfusion Service with the support of ACVO, GREC and the Quantum Foundation, will an be holding a Voluntary Sector Blood Donation Drive at the Aberdeen Citadel in the Castlegate, Aberdeen. To book a time to donate please telephone the BTS on (01224) 812459. The Voluntary Sector Blood Donation session is aiming to achieve a target of 140 new donors.
