This is a brand new role, funded by the Scottish Government's Change Fund, which seeks to develop supportive connections between all organisations involved in helping individuals get the most out of living longer.  So if your organisation is involved in active ageing, improving people’s engagement and participation, to keep them strong and healthy and engaged in the community around them, well we need to hear from you!

There are a lot of plans, initiatives, funding opportunities and partnerships all working on ways of bringing everyone together to make sure Aberdeen’s older generation is recognised for its essential role in keeping our communities alive and integrated.

If you feel there are ways of improving the quality of older peoples lives in Aberdeen today, or if your organisation would like to be kept up to date and connected to what is going on across the city in the next few months, then please get in touch today.

David Fryer joins ACVO this month as Enterprise Change Co-ordinator. He will act as a helping hand for Third Sector organisations that have the potential to contribute to the reshaping of public services, particularly for older people.  He will link the public, private and third sectors together and provide support  to appropriate local initiatives not only in direct reference to older people’s services but also to broader innovative responses to the needs of the community.  Social enterprises, in particular, are seen as having the vital potential to be key players in making a sustainable contribution that benefits the City as a whole.  David will liaise with the Aberdeen Social Enterprise Forum and national social enterprise support organisations in order to promote their potential for the City, in recognition of their great expertise, knowledge and existing contacts.  He will work in partnership to support the development of services and activities to enable emerging and existing social enterprises to thrive and grow.  The Enterprise Change post is funded through the Scottish Government’s Change Fund programme in recognition that the Third Sector can, with the appropriate support, make significant contribution to the national and local objectives of reshaping public services.

Over the last ten years, David’s work with the City Council in the south of Aberdeen has been focused in Torry to deliver economic development, environmental and social regeneration projects which included the recently completed Retail Rocks initiative to regenerate empty shops in the heart of Torry by helping new businesses to get started.

David says “I am really keen to get started as part of the ACVO Enterprise & Sustainability team  and will be looking forward to meeting and listening to a wide range of organisations and hearing local concerns.  I am here to help you as part of the Third Sector Interface so do get in touch – if I haven’t reached you first!”
